<p>LSF&#8217;s RED 4.5 &amp; Under Women’s Travel Tennis Team won the North/West Chicago Indoor Tennis Association Championship for the 2012-2013 season in April. Congratulations to all who participated!</p>

<p>LSF&#8217;s PT360 announced a new fitness challenge for our training members in January and the results are in! The participant with the highest total point total wins a 6-pack of personal training. Each category winner receives a complimentary 60-minute massage at the Spa at Lakeshore SF.</p>
<p>Each participant did an InBody assessment at the start of the challenge and then did ongoing assessments every two weeks while we kept a leaderboard of all contestants. The point scale included 2 points for % of body fat lost, 2 points per pound of muscle gained, 0.5 points per pound lost, and 1.5 points per pound of fat lost.</p>

<p><span lang="">We are excited to announce an exclusive class designed by national and international fitness presenters and leaders, Kimberly Shah and Marcelo Ehrhardt. These two classes are offered early mornings starting this month, but look for more of these new formats to be rolled out soon.</span></p>
<p><strong>fullFORCE</strong> is a high-intensity, anaerobic interval class designed to achieve optimal power, strength, coordination, and anaerobic endurance using plyometrics, body weight, and agility exercises. Successfully completing this class requires you to execute at fullFORCE (all-out effort) eight complex exercises split into two blocks. Each block holds four stations to be completed twice through. Block One&#8217;s stations are made up of individual exercises, while Block Two&#8217;s stations are merged together to create a more dynamic interval circuit. A taut, high-intensity 20 minutes ends with dynamic stretches. Intermediate to advanced fitness level.</p>

<p>Push beyond what you thought was possible with Lakeshore Elite! Expert PT360 Trainer Simon Hyun is forming small group fitness classes immediately. Classes are focused on high-intensity lifts and movements. Along with the workouts, participants will learn tips for increasing strength and maximizing muscle tone. Only two groups will be formed.</p>
<p><em>The following prerequisites will apply to anyone who wishes to sign up:</em></p>

<li>Limit 5 per group</li>
<li>8:00 minute mile time</li>
<li>5 dead-hang pull-ups (or 30-second chin-up hold for women)</li>
<li>20 strict military push-ups</li>

<p><span lang="">We rolled out our new courtesy policy earlier this year and seek to reinforce the messages through periodic reminders in the Loop. While we are a club that welcomes and embraces children, we also know that not all spaces are child-friendly, and sometimes kids behave like kids, resulting in experiences that some adults do not enjoy. To that end, we try to keep things simple with the following guidelines, but we encourage parents to supervise their children to ensure that they behave appropriately.</span></p>

<li><span lang=""><span lang=""><span lang="">Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span lang=""><span lang=""><span lang="">Children under the age of 14 are not permitted on the 3rd floor fitness areas unless they are supervised and certified through our youth certification program to use the equipment.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span lang=""><span lang=""><span lang="">In the common areas of the club, such as the restaurant or walking to and from areas, please supervise your children so that they are well-behaved; in general, this means no running, playing, shouting, bouncing basketballs, etc. in common areas. <p><strong><span style="color: #ff8c00;"><strong><span style="color: #ff8c00;"><strong><strong><a name="projectsupdate"></a>Capital improvement projects update</strong></strong></span></strong></span></strong></p>
<p><span lang="">While we have already completed many projects this year, we have many more planned.  We are in the midst of building the new cycling studio on the training catwalk. Our mason should be working this week and next overnight to build the new noise-separating wall and entrance. We will also start work to improve the 4th floor in the next few days, including retiling a substantial portion of the 4th floor and installing more movable glass doors to brighten this area and make it truly indoors &amp; outdoors. At this point, we will also close the staircase between the 3rd and 4th floors over the basketball court indefinitely. We have begun demolition of the 4th floor kitchen area to make way for a new, fully enclosed kitchen, enabling us to provide better food service to the rooftop dining area and creating a new snack bar for the pool area. We expect parking lot B to be repaved in May. We will start on improving the women’s locker room over the summer. Because most construction workers are male, we will need to do this work in stages where the work can be partitioned off from women using the locker room. First, we will redo the dry areas including new carpet, new furniture, and new countertops. Next, we will take down one wet area at a time to retile, plumb, light, and generally make it live up to our new standards.</span></p>

<p>In addition to the work that is almost completed in the men’s locker room (we are finishing up the new dry vanity areas), we have many other building improvement initiatives underway. Work has begun on the new cycling studio, which will be located on the Training Catwalk. This new studio is being completely sound-insulated from the adjacent rooms and will have 50 bikes in a stadium setting. We have ordered new furniture and carpet for the women’s locker room and expect to install that and fix up the dry vanity areas as soon as the materials arrive, probably in May. We anticipate working on the wet areas over the summer (this work will require us to section off parts of the wet area at a time). We are scheduling the repaving of the back parking lot and are installing new squash court walls in the coming weeks. Planning is advancing on our new rooftop kitchen, which will enable us to have a fantastic new food service offering on the roof this summer. We are also advancing plans on the new elevator and front entrance for later this year.</p>

At the end of your workout, you put the balls back in the cart and lock it. The ball machine and the cart will then go back to the middle area between courts 7 and 8. Your ID will be returned to you when you give the key back to the front desk. Thank you for your cooperation with our new procedure.</span></p>

<p>Join our new Ping Pong Flex League! Here&#8217;s how it works: Players are divided into two groups based on skill level. An email roster and weekly match schedule will be sent out at the beginning of the session, so that players can contact their opponents and schedule each match. The match format will be best 2 out of 3 games played up to 21. Each player will play two matches per week for the first nine weeks of the session. During the 10th week, the top eight players from each group will play a single elimination tournament. The winners of each division will receive a free Ping Pong Flex League session. The runner-ups will receive a $25 Lakeshore gift card.</p>

<p><strong><span style="color: #ff8c00;"><a name="constructionupdate"></a>Construction Update</span></strong></p>
<p>We are close to completing the major work in the men’s locker room for the near term. We are installing carpet this week and expect new wood locker faces later in the month and new furniture soon. We know that there are still some issues with the jets in the whirlpool, which we are working to resolve. We will come back to redo the other wet areas in the future. We expect to undertake significant work in the women’s locker room later this year.</p>
<p>We have started work on the new Group Cycling studio, to be located down the training catwalk in the old PeeWee room. This project is quite substantial because of sound separation requirements<span lang="">—w</span>e are erecting a completely soundproof room so that Yoga will not be impacted. We do not yet have a completion date for this room but will keep you posted as the work progresses.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff8c00;"><a name="jobsearch"></a>Job Search</span></strong></p>
<p>LakeshoreSF is hiring! We are looking for several seasoned managers to join our team, including a director of Human Resources and two assistant general managers. Jordyn is a sixth-grade student who was recently selected to participate as a delegate of the People to People Student Ambassador Program, which will be held in July 2013 in Canada. The objective of the program is to promote international understanding while building leadership skills among world youth.</p>

<p>You may have noticed the cool new LSF water bottles that we have for sale at the Front Desk. We searched high and low for water bottles that would be easy to fill and good looking. These BPA-free water bottles are top of the line and we are selling them for only $8.95 (which is pretty close to our cost) in order to encourage members to use them, rather than waste cups. You may have noticed the signs that indicate that we go through 1.4 cups per workout – meaning that the average person uses more than one cup during the course of their workout. We hope that together we can reduce the waste by at least 50%. Please help us out!<br />

<p>While it is snowing outside now, we are starting to prepare for the summer when we will have a great new grill on the roof. Our plan is to have a great restaurant with tasty offerings open for dinner Wednesday through Friday, all day and evening Saturday and Sunday day. If demand is sufficient, we will explore opening up for more days and times. We are working with a top chef to design a menu that will be appealing to both kids and adults. We hope that we will have great success on the roof and then leverage that team to improve our food service in the 1320Market area. In order to implement this plan, we are hiring a Food &amp; Beverage director and thought that some of our members might have great referrals for us. We are looking for a Food &amp; Beverage director who has experience in opening and operating high-quality restaurants and who understands the level of service that our members deserve. <p><span style="color: #ff8c00;"><strong><a name="lockerroomupdate"></a>Men’s locker room update</strong></span></p>
<p>The whirlpool in the men’s locker room is complete and has re-opened! We are not going to do further work in the wet areas for a while because we recognize the disturbance that this work has created during the winter season and do not want to inconvenience you more. We will eventually refinish the rest of the wet areas with finishes like those in the new area, including heated floors. The painting work will continue over the next few days. Our carpet supplier and locker manufacturer will also begin work on these areas soon, and we expect our new furniture to be installed thereafter.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff8c00;"><a name="expresscheckin"></a>Front desk express check-in</span></strong></p>
<p>We have added an EXPRESS CHECK-IN lane for those with membership cards to allow for faster check-in. The express check-in station is the first check-in station. Those without membership cards or who need other services such as making payments, registering for courts, inquiring about bills, etc. will be serviced at the second and third stations. We will also be introducing online access for many of these functions over the next couple of months to make your lives easier.</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff8c00;"><strong><a name="valuables"></a>Watch your valuables</strong></span></p>
<p>Please keep an eye on your mobile phones and tablets. There have been some thefts in the club recently; we encourage members to be vigilant and not leave any belongings unattended. Please make sure to lock your belongings up in the locker rooms and not leave them in the common areas of the club.</p>

<p><strong>To all of our members who take cycling classes:</strong></p>
<p>We have implemented a sign-up process for the following classes (already in effect) in order to give everyone a fair chance to participate. We know that there were some glitches with communication on our part and we sincerely apologize. Please know that moving forward this system will make it much easier to attend cycling classes. Below are a few things you should know:</p>
<p>1. The sign-up sheet will be available exactly one hour before the start of classes to which we&#8217;ve assigned a sign-up, and it will be located at our Front Desk. Please form a line to the left of the desk to make way for members checking in. A Manager on Duty, Senior Director, or Staff will help the first couple of weeks to make sure everyone understands how to sign up. You are allowed to sign up for one bike only; however if you have a family membership, you will also have the opportunity to sign up for your spouse provided you are both there to attend.</p>
<p>2. The sheet shows the setup of the room with rows of bikes that are numbered and which have pedals labeled as follows:</p>
<ul>
<li>Basic (SPD clips and Sneakers &#8211; this means the pedal has a cage for those who use sneakers)</li>
<li>Dual (SPD and LOOK CLIPS)</li>
</ul>
<p>3. Please print your name on the line directly below the bike that you wish to reserve.</p>
<p>4. Please refrain from calling our staff or asking our staff to sign you up ahead of the available sheet. Bikes will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.</p>
<p>5. Once you sign up for your bike, you must be on your bike 5 minutes before the start of class. Once the instructor starts the class, those bikes that remain empty due to lateness will immediatley go to members on our waiting list.</p>
<p>6. The list will be brought up to the room 10 minutes before the start of class to prevent any confusion prior to the start of class.</p>
<p>We hope that you will help us pass along the word about this new sign-up procedure. We only strive to make things better and easier for everyone to be able to attend class. We are expanding the number of bikes once our new space is launched. Your incredible patience with all of this is greatly appreciated. Below is the list of classes you will need to sign up for at the front desk.</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Monday 9:15am</strong> with Marcelo Ehrhardt <em>(sign-up goes out at 8:15am)</em></li>
<li><strong>Monday 5:30pm</strong> with Marcelo Ehrhardt <em>(sign-up goes out at 4:30pm)</em></li>
<li><strong>Wednesday 9:15am</strong> with Bob Willems <em>(sign-up goes out at 8:15am)</em></li>
<li><strong>Friday 9:15am</strong> with Bob Willems <em>(sign-up goes out at 8:15am)</em></li>
<li><strong>Saturday 8:00am</strong> with Marcelo Ehrhardt <em>(sign-up goes out at 7:00am)</em></li>
<li><strong>Sunday 8:30am</strong> with Bob Willems <em>(sign-up goes out at 7:30am)</em></li>
</ul>
<p>To be clear, these classes are included with your membership; the sign-up is to secure your bike.</p>
