Mindfulness Workshop 2: The 8 Limbs of Yoga

Build upon what you learned in our first Mindfulness Workshop or begin here, a fantastic starting point for the yogi who is looking to dive deeper into their knowledge of yoga philosophy and practical application! In this 90 minute discussion based workshop presented by Becky K, we will explore the 8 Limbed Path, one of the main philosophical underpinnings of Classical Yoga. Based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, we will dive into the fundamental principles of living in a Yogic Way. Physical postures (asana), while being the most common form of yoga we see today, is only one of the eight components. The intention of this workshop is to discover the other seven limbs and how asana fits into a greater picture of spiritual and personal growth. Please wear comfortable clothes and bring a pen and notebook to the workshop as you may be asked to do some journaling or wish to take notes. Saturday, January 18 at 2-3:30pm in Yoga 1

Physical Therapy

Could your thumb pain be basal joint arthritis?

Over time, the cartilage at the base of the thumb can break down and become inflamed, showing signs of arthritis. The condition is painful and can make everyday activities harder.  Wear and tear is typically the cause, so it’s most common among adults over 40 and those that perform repetitive or excessive hand movements.  Research (Journal of Orthopedic & Sports PT, 2013 Vol:43 Issue:4) reveals a combination of manual joint therapy, neural mobilization and active exercise is effective at treating pain of the thumb basal joint.  The Lakeshore Physical Therapy Instagram page shares thumb exercises to get you started, if you are experiencing pain.  Additional treatment options are available from our experienced physical therapists and no referral is required to get started!
