Running

LSF Road Runners is a program for runners of all levels who wish to train for a half marathon or marathon.  There are two different programs offered; for beginners and intermediate athletes.

January 16th is the start of Pre-Season Training for the Chicago Marathon and Half Marathon.  Pre-Season training is designed to take beginner running and work on building their endurance levels to where they can run 6 miles non-stop by April.  For intermediate runners, the pre-season runs are designed to help build speed and strength.  For all runners throughout Pre-Season there are also 30 minute drills and skills classes to work develop better running efficiency.

Members of LSF Road Runners will receive a comprehensive training plan for both pre-season and race season via Training Peaks, pre-season skills and drills classes 2 times a week and 2 coached group runs a week lasting through mid-October.  For further details, contact Kimberly Shah at kimberlys@lakeshoresportandfitness.com

Pre-Season for half and marathon runners:  January 16th through April 1st

Beginners: 3 run workouts, 2-3 cross-train workouts/or suggested classes and 1-2 days off

Intermediate: 4 run workouts, 2 cross-train workouts/or suggested classes and 1 day off

Coached Runs are on Tuesday and Thursday.Tuesday’s Track Practice will be held indoors at LSF through end of March.  There will be 3 different scheduled times: 6:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 6:45 p.m.  Thursday’s Cruise Intervals are also held indoors at LSF through end of March at 10:30 a.m.  Skills and Drills is at LSF (meeting location TBD) on Tuesday at 7:30 and Thursday at 10:00 a.m.  These sessions last 30 minutes.

Race Season for half and marathon runners: April 2nd through October 14th

Beginners:  4 run workouts, 2 cross-train workouts/or suggested classes and 1 day off

Intermediate:  4-5 run workouts, 1-2 cross-train workouts/or suggested classes and 1 day off

*Beginner Program – for runners starting with no endurance base and wanting to train to just finish the race without walking. *Intermediate Program – for runners who have an established endurance base and are looking to finish races with a specific time goal.

Race Schedule
