Lincoln Park Tennis Courts
Lakeshore Sport & Fitness at Lincoln Park features 11 indoor tennis courts and 3 outdoor rooftop courts. In Illinois, typically you don’t have the option to play outdoors about six months out of the year due to seasonal conditions. However, we welcome players to enjoy our rooftop tennis courts in the warmer months. If the heat is still too much, our climate-controlled indoor courts are always an option!
Indoor vs. Outdoor Tennis Courts
There are pros & cons to playing on indoor and outdoor tennis courts in Lincoln Park. With indoor courts, you get the obvious protection from the elements. Wind and precipitation can have an impact on your game. Heat and humidity can wear down players much quicker. You also need to use the proper equipment to adjust for different conditions when you play outdoors. Looser strings will help you create more power that you will need with the potentially heavier balls. The speed of the game is much faster indoors so you want tighter strings for more control.
If you’re the outdoorsy type, then you probably would enjoy playing on our rooftop courts more (not to mention those gorgeous Chicago skyline views). The ball might not move as quickly, so you’ll need to be patient and use problem solving skills. Players can also use the elements to their advantage to try and force their opponents to be impatient. Spin has more of an impact in outdoor play to counteract the wind. A well placed lob shot, either taken by the wind or hidden by the sun’s glare, will surely frustrate your opponents. So in general, you have to be smart, patient, and possess many more shots outdoors to be effective.
Learn to Adapt
Playing both indoors and outdoors will help you become an all-around better player. Tennis takes a lot of strategy. Understanding how the ball moves based on the court conditions will allow you to make adjustments to your play style to give you and your partner the best chance to win.
No matter which you prefer, you can play your way at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness. We look forward to seeing you out on the courts!chicago tennis, indoor tennis, tennis courts chicago, tennis courts Lincoln Park, tennis tips
